Indication
Ibrutinib is indicated for Mantle Cell Lymphoma, Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia / Small Lymphocytic Lymphoma, Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia, Marginal zone Lymphoma, Chronic Graft Versus Host Disease. Ibrutinib is a first line treatment in those with CLL who require treatment and are newly diagnosed. It may also be used in CLL that relapses.
Note
OVERDOSE :
Do not use more than prescribed dose. Patients who have received doses higher than those recommended should be carefully monitored. Do not take extra dose to make up for the missed dose.
INTERACTIONS :
Antiplatelet drugs like Clopidogrel, NSAIDs like Ibuprofen / Naproxen, Blood thinners like Warfarin / Dabigatran can cause bleeding / bruising with Ibrutinib. Aspirin can increase the risk of bleeding when used with Ibrutinib. Azole antifungals such as Itraconazole, Ketoconazole can affect the removal of Ibrutinib from body
SIDE EFFECTS :
Ibrutinib can cause side effects include : Bleeding, Leukostasis, Infections, Decrease the blood cell counts, Heart problems, Liver problems. New cancers have occurred in people taking Ibrutinib, including skin cancer & other cancers. The most common side effects seen include : Pneumonia, Upper respiratory tract infection, Diarrhoea, Feeling very tired, nausea, headache, swollen hands, ankles or feet, being short of breath, dizziness, fainting, constipation, infected nose.
Precaution
- Do not take Ibrutinib with grapefruit or Seville oranges – this includes eating them, drinking the juice, or taking supplements that might contain them. This is because they can increase the amount of Ibrutinib in blood.
